3 Sep, 2004 >> Shane's got a good Filan
Move over Mariah Carey, the Westlife boys have found a new girl to collaborate with on their forthcoming album.
Singer Shane Filan tells us the lucky lass, Joanne Hindley from Bolton, was chosen from thousands of hopefuls who auditioned to record a song with them on their new Rat Pack-inspired collection.
Amazingly the Northern songbird, who was recording with the boys this week, was chosen over us and our gobsmacking rendition of Uptown Girl - a performance that had the boys in tears... of laughter, unfortunately.
"She has a brilliant voice," reveals 25-year-old Shane. "Simon Cowell helped us choose, so you know she's gonna be good. We only broke the news to her on Tuesday. We surprised her in the supermarket in Bolton with her mum."

2 Sep 2004 >> O2 in the Park to bring Dublin £á11.5m
Ireland's biggest free concert, O2 in the Park, has been estimated to generate over £á11.5m for Dublin.

The concert is on September 4 in the Phoenix Park.

The £á11.5m figure was calculated by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce and is based on a breakdown of food/drink consumption estimated at £á4.7m, accommodation at £á2.65m and shopping at £á2m.

The stage for O2 in the Park is one of the largest ever erected for a music event in Ireland. More than 500 crew, 20,000 feet of cable, 20 articulated lorries and three miles of fencing will be used to construct the stage and prepare the site.

O2 in the Park will see more than 30 performers taking to the stage. More than 80,000 music fans attended the event last year, prompting organisers to make 100,000 free tickets available to meet demand for this year's event.

Playing the O2 stage on September 4 are Westlife, Blue, Girls Aloud, Brian McFadden, The 411, George Murphy, Mickey Harte, Aslan, Picture House and more.
