|23 Aug 2004 >> Westlife date for Rebecca|
JUST days after appearing at the Big Weekend, up and coming singer Rebecca Jones will be performing in front of Westlife!
When the top boy band wanted a new female singer for their next album, the boys held a mass audition through GMTV. Ten thousand hopefuls sang down the phone, and the Merlins Bridge songstress was informed this week that she's one of the few to get through to next stage - performing in front of Westlife themselves!
"I though they were joking" said Rebecca, a Westlife fan herself. "Even if I don't get through, it'll be a great experience. Just meeting them will be something, but to sing in front of them - oh my God!"
Rebecca's off to Manchester's Lowry Hotel on Monday, so she's got a whole weekend of being nervous and trying to think of what song to sing. In the meantime, local people will have another chance to see Rebecca in action on the Mercury sound stage at the Big Weekend, Friday and Saturday night.

The fourpiece went wild during their first British tour, shortly after they formed in 1999.
Singer Kian Egan reveals, "Nicky (Byrne) stripped of on the bar, people were crawling round on the ground as if they were on a dog leash, people were arm-wrestling for silly amounts of money and then losing. It was wild."
Byrne adds, "The next day we were supposed to be doing interviews - it was three in the afternoon and we were all still hammered."
